Updated: Oct 28, 2021

THE DEVASTATING EFFECTS OF THE PANDEMIC HAS PLUNGED AN ADDITIONAL PEOPLE IN THE UK INTO HARDSHIP

Pre pandemic the UK already had a poverty crisis on its hands with 14.5 million people living in poverty - that's approximately 1-in-5 of our population - a third of whom were children. Then there were those who hovered above the poverty line - the families and individuals who were - just - making ends meet. Those who didn't qualify for certain benefits such as free school meals for their kids because they earned 'just' above the benefit fresh hold. Back in March 2021 we already knew that 700,000 additional people had been plunged into hardship in Britain due to the pandemic. The Covid crisis has led to mass job losses with many struggling to find re-employment so sadly those figures are climbing.
